About Swampscott and the North Shore
The town of Swampscott, situated in Essex County, is a beautiful and tranquil seaside community of 13,800 located 15 miles northeast of Boston along the Atlantic coastline. The area is full of history, fine dining, shopping, water adventures, hiking, biking, theatre and more.
Set in a picture-perfect location that has been inspiring artists for centuries, early historical accounts of Swampscott claim that the Native Americans, referred to as Naumkeags, came to what was called the “Land of the Red Rock” in the seventeenth century to fish and hunt.
Long known as a seafaring fishing village, Swampscott hosted a large commercial fishing fleet that sailed daily from its protected bay.
To this day, Swampscott has retained the essence of a quiet setting along the North Shore of the Atlantic Ocean with the soothing sounds of the ocean lapping along its seashore.
